"If you lived in the cave, way back when, you would just know how to do this. Breastfeeding is natural, sure. It is also a socially-learned skill, which is why our breastfeeding groups are so important! Being surrounded by other breastfeeding mamas at our groups is like getting back in the cave, except with our expert IBCLC (International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant) support."

Ginny Kooyman

Ginny has been working with new families since 2003. She's taught birthing classes, worked as a doula, and led baby wearing classes over the years and is happy to have landed at the 'hood where she works as in IBCLC lactation consultant. When she's not working with mamas and their babies, Ginny is working with her own crew of four homeschooled boys and their small menagerie of chickens, rabbits, bees, and goats. She also enjoys making ice cream, sewing, and knitting.

Amanda Ogden

Amanda is passionate about the art and science of breastfeeding and rebuilding the lost generational knowledge. She believes women are powerful and tenacious. She loves watching new mamas discover how the birth of their child changes and empowering them is her favorite part of the 'hood.

After having her own children and experiencing struggles with breastfeeding and other postpartum issues, her professional interests shifted to supporting mothers. In 2008, she began her lactation and postpartum doula education, and became certified in both areas. Her experience includes outpatient, inpatient, and in-home services. "Utilizing a family-centered approach, my goal is to ensure that families feel nurtured as they transition in their new family unit."

Sarah Choinard

I love being a part of the lactation team at the mama ‘hood. I truly believe that finding community is essential to breastfeeding success. I was lucky to have found my community at the ‘hood, and now I get to help other mamas on their breastfeeding journeys. I am honored to be able to work with moms, partners, and babies during this special and sacred time. When I’m not talking about breastfeeding, you can find me enjoying the sunny outdoors with my husband and our two kids.

Gina Penka

Gina holds a B.S. in Integrative Therapeutic Practices and is studying to become a midwife. She has served as a doula in home, hospital, and birth center births beginning in 2001, and taught classes for the childbearing year in group and private settings since 2003. She is also a lactation counselor, facilitating breastfeeding groups and helping motherbaby pairs to meet their goals. Gina has three children and two stepsons, and loves gardening, cooking, knitting, sewing and independent film.
